8 Dimensions of Wellness
Emotional Resiliency: A sense of security and a positive self image. Also the ability to cope with and/or improve unpleasant mood states.
Ask yourself:
- Do I consider myself to be positive (most of the time)?
- Do I cope with stress well?
- Do I view challenges as opportunities rather than obstacles?
- Do I function independently, but know when I need to ask for help?
- Do I take responsibility for my own behavior?
Campus Resources:
Counseling Services: Free and confidential services available to assist students in overcoming obstacles that may otherwise prevent them from attaining academic, personal and professional goals.
Environmental Consciousness: An awareness of one's connection to their environment; making responsible choices to improve and sustain the earth
Ask yourself:
- Am I aware of human impact on the environment?
- Do I recycle, reduce and reuse?
- Do I find time to spend outdoors in nature?
- Do I work to ensure stability and longevity of our natural resources?

Financial Wellness:
- Knowledge of resources that will help fund education and living expenses.
- The ability to maintain a balanced budget.
- Preparedness for all expenses, including short-term, long-term, and emergencies.

Financial Aid: Provide financial assistance in an accurate, efficient and timely manner as well as to provide the best possible service.
Intellectual Inquiry: Playing an active role in one's own educational experience and learning process.
Ask yourself:
- Am I in college because I want to be, or because I have been told I must be?
- Do I question information I receive through various sources?
- Am I proactive in seeking out support for my academic needs?
- Do I see out ways to directly apply concepts I learn in the classroom?

- Academic Success Center: Pre-Major Advising, Tutoring Services, Disability Services and TRIO Services.
- Office of International Education: International study opportunities such as Wisconsin in Scotland, Semester Abroad, St. Martin's College Exchange, Greek Seminar and more.
- Library: Includes Area Research Center and University Archives, circulation, government information, Interlibrary Loan/Universal Borrowing, library instruction, reference, reserve, Textbook Services.
Finding Your Career Path: A positive perception of the career related path one is working toward.
Ask yourself:
- Do I like most of my classes?
- Am I motivated to find an internship in my field of study?
- Do I feel confident about my post-college plans?
- Is it easy for me to make long-range goals about my future?
Campus Resources
- Career Services: Provides assistance in identifying a major or career field, utilizes career-focused self-assessments, services and resources related to resumes, cover letters, professional portfolios, interviewing and etiquette skills and identifying jobs and internships.
Physical Wellness and Personal Safety: A perception and expectation of physical health.
Ask yourself
- Am I exercising regularly?
- Is my diet balanced?
- Do I get 6-8 hours of sleep on average/night?
- Do I practice moderation in all areas of my life?
- Am I safe when it comes to my sexual interactions?
Campus Resources
- Campus Recreation: Hunt Ice Arena, Knowles Field house, Karges Center, open recreation, memberships, intramural sports, Falcon Outdoor Adventures, sport clubs, fitness opportunities for students, faculty, staff and the surrounding communities.
- Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic: Provides speech-language, hearing and swallowing evaluation and therapy services. A few services offered are in the areas of hearing and hearing aid maintenance, articulation/phonology, foreign accent reduction, stuttering, voice, language, feeding and swallowing, cognitive aspects of communication, social aspects of communication and augmentative/alternative communication.
- Student Health Services: Health services available to students, health insurance, immunizations, emergency medical care, survey data, health and mental health resources and wellness programs.
- Student Conduct and Community Standards: Promotes student awareness and understanding of their rights and responsibilities as members of the university community.
- University Police: Protects and serves the university community through a variety of crime prevention and intervention services and strategies.
Social Intelligence: One's connection with family, friends or coworkers. Giving and receiving support from others and being valued in one's own relationships.

- Do I like myself as a person?
- Do I interact easily with people of different ages, backgrounds, races and lifestyles?
- Do I connect well with others and foster healthy friendships?
- Can I communicate my feelings effectively?
- Do I do a good job at balancing time between responsibilities and relaxation?
Campus Resources
- Office of International Education (Study Abroad): International study opportunities such as Wisconsin in Scotland, Semester Abroad, St. Martin's College Exchange, Greek Seminar and more.
- Residence Life: Creating residential communities where students live civilly, learn effectively and discover success.
- Student Involvement: Learn more about upcoming events, student clubs and organizations, fraternity and sorority life and other involvement opportunities.
- Veterans' Services Office: Assistance for veterans, reservists, National Guard, active duty and family members with education benefits, paper work, community, county, state and federal resources.
Spiritual Awareness: A positive perception of meaning and purpose in life.

- Do my decisions reflect my personal values and ethics?
- Am I open to experiencing new things?
- Do I have a good understanding of where I fit into the world?
