Student Senate

The Student Government Association (SGA) is an official governing body at UWRF. We're committed to representing the voices of the student body at the university. We include a variety of committees and subcommittees and partner with other shared governance units at both the university and state level.

Every Falcon opinion matters so we would like to hear them! If you'd like to make a comment or inquiry to the SGA, please email sga.vicepresident@uwrf.edu or visit our office in the Involvement Center. Visit FalconsConnect to view our upcoming events, find minutes and agendas and more!

Student Senate Mission Statement

We, the Student Government Association of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, strive to advocate for the student body by representing their needs at a university, state and national level.

The Academic and Student Affairs Committee supports student success and advocates for academic policy change. Members of the committee address student concerns and lead initiatives that educate students about academic affairs. Along with discussing student inquiries, members of the council gather feedback from the student body. The council uses suggestions and students' experiences to guide the Student Senate's policy recommendations to other shared governance organizations.

The Finance Committee holds significant power on campus through their oversight of student segregated fees. The committee reviews the budget proposals from campus entities such as Textbook Services, Residence Life and Counseling Services, and forwards their recommendations to the chancellor. This gives members of the committee the unique opportunity to advocate for the expenditure of students’ segregated fees. The Finance Committee also allocates money to Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs).

The Judicial Committee is comprised of the Chief Justice, Senior Associate Justice, Senate Associate Justices and At-Large Associate Justices. These members are tasked with settling all disputes arising within SGA in accordance with not only the SGA Bylaws, but also all UWRF and Universities of Wisconsin policies. This committee has direct oversight of the Executive Branch and Election Commission and annually reviews all governing documents.

Director: Caleb Wiener

The purpose of the SGA Executive Board is to advise the SGA President and SGA Vice President on all business relating to UWRF and the SGA. Executive Branch members shall carry out all tasks and responsibilities delegated by the SGA President and SGA Vice President.

2025 Election Narratives

As part of the election process, candidates are given the opportunity to submit a narrative for their peers to learn more about their interest in positions and why they feel they are the best choice. Submissions are below.

Being an agriculture education major, I have the opportunity to see all different sides of CAFES building and meet with students of all kinds. This helps me understand the different perspectives and challenges within the CAFES community. I want to be an advocate for all students and ensure their voices and experiences are heard. To better the college experience for all students alike.

Hi! I am a Psychology and Neuroscience double major with minors in music and spanish. I have had much leadership experience throughout my college career, among them being a Resident Assistant and DIB senator on SGA last year and an Orientation Leader this year. I am dedicated to helping and serving my college as I am actively involved in many departments within CAS.

I think I would be a good candidate for this position due to my involvement with various student populations. I have experience with various clubs as a board member such as SFO and GSA. I also work as a Resident Assistant in Parker Hall. I think my engagement with first year residents will be valuable, due to first year students commonly feeling hesitant to voice their opinions and needs. I strongly believe that a diverse population of student influences is important to representing a college community. I am committed to bringing these voices forward and representing our students at UW - River Falls.

My name is Carter Fetzer, I am a first-year student majoring in Ag Business. I would like to be able to advocate for any changes that people want to see on campus. I am open to all ideas and would like to represent all other students in the CAFES programs as well.

Hello, I plan on arguing on behalf of the student body to solve day to day problems. I plan on meeting with students personally in order to get the best idea of what each student thinks will help make life better for everyone.

Hello! I was an SGA member last year and I loved it. I enjoy giving students a voice on campus and helping to make it a better place for everyone. I’m a senior and currently a double major in Political Science and Business Administration, and I believe that I can give a balanced perspective from both CAS and CEBAH.

Hello, my name is Blake Johnson, and I am a senior majoring in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration. I have served last semester as an At-Large Senator in Student Government, where I have gained valuable experience advocating for students and working toward meaningful improvements on campus.

In regards to the prestigious Athletics Senator position, athletics have been a central part of my life. From gymnastics, baseball, football, swimming, and diving, to now being a varsity member of the Track and Field Team since 2023, I have always believed in the value of teamwork, discipline, and school spirit. Competing at the conference level has given me a firsthand understanding of the challenges student-athletes face, both on and off the field. From getting a necessary amount of sleep and food, to balancing a work life, athletic life, and a school life can be challenging. I will love to give any and all advice I can on this life we student athlete live in.

As your Athletics Senator, my top priority will be representing and advocating for all student-athletes. I want to ensure their needs and voices are heard in Student Government. One of my main goals is to push for the installation of a J-Term meal plan, which would better support student-athletes who remain on campus for training and competition during that time.

With my background in athletics and proven leadership in student government, I am committed to building a stronger bridge between student-athletes and campus leadership, making sure our concerns are addressed and our contributions recognized

I am looking to involve myself with the CAS as much as possible, specifically with MUSASA, and I will represent the students involved as truly as I can. I want the best for the music program, as much as I want the best for the individual musicians, artists, and to-be educators. I believe the best way to do this is to speak with those students and faculty personally, and often.

Hi! My name is Anna Paulson, and I am a sophomore double-majoring in Pre-Veterinary Medicine with a focus on Companion Animals and Dairy Science. On campus, I stay involved through several organizations, including the Pre-Vet Club, Food Shelf Committee, Honors Program, and Companion Animal Professional Society. Being part of these groups has helped me build strong connections with other students who share similar interests and goals.

I also make use of campus resources such as the Disability Resource Center and TRIO Student Success. These resources have helped me navigate my college experience, and through them, I’ve learned how to advocate for myself and others.

Through these experiences, I’ve developed valuable leadership and communication skills. As a senator, I hope to use what I’ve learned to help current and prospective students feel supported, welcomed, and excited about all the opportunities available at UW–River Falls.

I am the first college student of my family, and navigating that was quite difficult so I understand the difficulty’s others will face when navigating college, as I’m going through them too. I’m always open to talk to people around campus and am pretty easy to get in touch with when people need to. I like sports so you can often catch me outside doing something or inside watching a game. My goals for this position would to ensure that first generation students have easy access to information and services they need, such as financial aid information, questions about residence, classes, or everything else that River Falls has to offer.
