Falcon Today

UMC produces Falcon Today, an e-newsletter designed to inform UWRF employees and subscribers of campus announcements and activities in a concise new read each day. Students, parents, community members and others may subscribe to Falcon Today and are encouraged to do so.

Falcon Today is distributed Monday and Thursday mornings year round, with the exception of holidays, Spring Break and winter break.

For questions about Falcon Today, please email kelsea.wissing@uwrf.edu

•    Content for the Thursday issue is due by 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Important Reminders

  • Events should be posted on FalconsConnect. Events that are open to the campus community may be submitted to run in the "What's Happening This Week" section but the Falcon Today editor will not seek out events from FalconsConnect.
  • Open meetings must be posted on the Open Meetings webpage, not in Falcon Today.
  • Editorial Rights: UMC and the Falcon Today editor reserve the right to deny submissions that do not align with the communication goals of the university.

Subscription Options

  • UWRF employees are automatically subscribed to Falcon Today through their campus email.
  • Students, parents, community members and others may subscribe or unsubscribe by providing an email address at the link.

Content Submission Guidelines

University employees are encouraged to submit content using the Falcon Today submission form or by emailing a short blurb (3-5 short sentences max, include links if more information is necessary) directly to falcondaily-submit@uwrf.edu. Submissions that are not submitted via the submission form or submission email may not be included in Falcon Today.

Content includes, but is not limited to, general campus announcements, employment opportunities, the day's campus events, training opportunities, retirement announcements (must be submitted from the employee's department), new hires, minor procedural changes and condolences.

Condolences

Condolences are limited to current employees, their spouses and children, and former employees. Student deaths are communicated by listserv to all UWRF students and are not posted in Falcon Today. Grief counseling services are available for faculty and staff via the Employee Assistance Program through Human Resources. Students may schedule an appointment with Student Health and Counseling Services by stopping in or by calling 715-425-3884. Counseling Services also provides online resources for coping with tragedy, trauma and death.

Meeting Notices

Meeting notices, with the exception of search and screen open forums and full shared governance (Faculty Senate, Academic Staff and University Staff) meetings, should be posted to the campus FalconsConnect event calendar and are not published in Falcon Today. Governance committee meeting notices should be posted to the Academic Affairs website.

Excluded Announcements

Falcon Today does not include announcements for personal, political or monetary gain, non-UW-River Falls related announcements, and isolated department announcements (for example: a picnic for only a portion of campus). Excused absences, grant information, graduate exams and retention notices should be posted to the Academic Affairs webpage and are not published in Falcon Today.

Repeat Submissions

In order to keep Falcon Today a short, new read each morning, announcements (3-5 sentences maximum) are initially run once and then may be run one additional time as a reminder, if requested. Event blurbs can also run once under "What's Happening This Week." All upcoming events should be posted to the FalconsConnect event calendar as they are not posted in Falcon Today unless submitted. See "Important Reminders" above for information about what types of events are included in Falcon Today. In special circumstances, submissions may be repeated additional times if they're supporting system or institutional goals or needs.

Photo Submissions

Falcon Today welcomes submitted photos to consider. Submitted photos will be credited to the photographer unless the person requests no credit then the photo will be credited as "submitted photo." Submitted photos must include complete cutline information including who, what, when, where and a link for more information. If the photo shows five or fewer people, each must be identified with name, title and if a student, their year in school and major.
