Spring Move In
Welcome to campus! Whether you're new to UWRF or a returning Falcon, we're excited that you're joining us in the residence halls this year! This page contains all the resources you need to make a smooth transition into your new living space. Check back frequently for updates.
Incoming Students: Your move in day is Saturday, Jan. 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. See the “How do I check into my room?” section for full details about moving into your hall.
Returning Students: Students who lived on campus during fall 2024 have access to their hall free of charge during winter/J-term and may access their hall at any time during break/J-Term or before spring classes.

Incoming Students:
- Follow the instructions to log in to the Housing Portal and view your room and roommate details: Spring 2025 View Room and Roommate Details.
Returning Students:
- If you receive a new roommate, you'll receive an email from Residence Life notifying you with details about your new roommate.
Students will not have access to their residence hall without their student ID Card.
Submit your photo for your UWRF ID Card now to the Division of Technology Services (DoTS).
- DoTS will be closed over move in weekend. You must submit your photo for your UWRF ID card to DoTS by noon on Friday, Jan. 24. You will pick up your ID Card when you check check in and pick up your room key at the Residence Life office.
OR:
- You may visit DoTS prior to January 25 to pick up your ID card or to have your photo taken and receive an ID card on the spot. DoTS is located in 160 Chalmer Davee Library. View DoTS service hours prior to visiting.
Spring 2025 Move In
- Checking in: Your move in day is Saturday, Jan. 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Please check in at the Residence Life main office in Hathorn Hall. The access door is the south, parking-lot facing door (see photo). Park your vehicle in Lot G adjacent to the Residence Life office. You'll need a form of photo ID to check in and receive your room key.
- Your student ID is required to gain access to your hall. See the "Student ID Card" section of this page for details about submitting your photo for your ID card no later than Friday, Jan. 24 at noon. You'll pick up your ID Card when you check in and pick up your room key at the Residence Life office.
- Unloading at your hall: After checking in and receiving your room key, proceed to unloading zones near your hall and turn on your vehicles 4-way flashers. Once your items are unloaded, students please move your car to the parking lot where you have a permit (parents, please park your vehicle on a public street).
- Checking in before or after January 25: If you have unique circumstances and need to request a different move in date and time, please email reslife@uwrf.edu and provide full details and request a specific move in date. A reply will be sent to your UWRF email with instructions.
- International Students: You'll be checking in before January 25 and the International Student Services team will be working with you to check into your hall and will provide you with your room key and student ID card (you must submit your photo for your UWRF ID card before you arrive at UWRF).
Location of the Department of Residence Life, Hathorn Hall:
Each residence hall has a limited number of large red moving carts as well as rubber mallets, which are used to adjust the height or loft the bed. Those who use the large red moving carts are asked to return them to the lobby in a timely manner to allow others to access the carts. Students and families are welcome to bring their own dollies, carts, etc.

A loft kit is available in each residence hall room. Residence Life will assist as able when requested during Move In. Rubber mallets are used to adjust bed height and loft beds. A limited number of rubber mallets are available in each residence hall. Students are welcome to bring their own rubber mallet. View the "How to Loft Your Bed" video for more information.
To prepare for life in the residence halls, review the suggested packing list. This list includes a variety of things to consider bringing to campus. Please also review the section of this page that lists items you should NOT bring to campus and what is provided in each room. Keeping a clean and organized space is helpful to creating a healthy roommate relationship and achieving academic potential!
What You Need
- School supplies
- Identification information, including your student ID and something such as a driver’s license
- Noise canceling headphones
- Clothing
- Laundry supplies, including a hamper, hangers, detergent and dryer sheets
- Two sets of twin extra long sheets, pillow, blanket, bath and hand towels
- Personal hygiene items
- Bathroom tote and shower shoes
- Water bottle/travel mug
- First aid/general health kit
- Cleaning supplies (nothing containing bleach or ammonia)
- Medical information including
- Names and phone numbers of primary and specialty care provider
- If you do not have insurance, you will have access to healthcare services through Student Health Services.
You aren't required to bring the following items to campus but you'll want to have many of these items on hand!
- Hand sanitizer
- Cell phone and charger
- Computer with a webcam
- Television
- Streaming TV device
- Fan
- Desk lamp
- Surge protector power strips
- Storage bins
- Silverware, cups, plates and bowls
- Pots, pans and cooking utensils
- Microwavable food storage containers
- Small vacuum, broom, dustpan
- Dish soap and dishcloths
- Air fresheners
- Kleenex
- Raincoat, umbrella, rainboots
- Command hooks
- Area rugs (Johnson Hall, Ames Suites and South Fork Suites rooms are carpeted.)
Please leave these items at home!
- Window Air Conditioning Units
- Wireless printer – printer and copy machines are available on campus!
- Refrigerator and microwave
- Halogen lights/lamps
- Hot plates or open heating coil appliances
- Items requiring open flames such as candles, oil lamps and incense
- Foam-backed carpeting or foam pads used under carpeting
- Pets (exceptions are harmless fish in 10 gallon or smaller aquariums)
- Fireworks or other explosives, as well as dangerous weapons, including but not limited to guns (also airsoft, pellet and paintball), rifles, bow and arrows, crossbows, large sporting or hunting knives, swords or spears
A variety of items are provided in every room on campus (extended housing spaces may vary). A full list of room dimensions and amenities is provided on each individual residence hall webpage. Students are not permitted to remove or store any of the provided room furnishings outside of the residence hall room.
