Montessori Ed.D. Application and Admission Info
This page contains information on the admission requirements and application process for the UW-River Falls Montessori Ed.D. program.
Admission Requirements
To be considered as candidates, files must be complete. Applicants submit the following materials:
- A completed UWRF online application for graduate study
- Payment of $56 application fee
- Letter of interest
- Resumé
- Writing sample
- Three letters of recommendation.
- GREs (UWRF code is 1918)
- Official bachelors and master’s degree transcripts from the institution showing a minimum GPA of 2.75.
Additional required items:
- Three letters of recommendation following the format described on this page.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores within the past five years are required. The school code for UWRF is 1918.
Note: By the end of the first summer semester, all candidates must have either taken a Montessori Philosophy course taken at a MACTE accredited Montessori Teacher Education Program or hold a Montessori Credential from a MACTE accredited Montessori Teacher Education Program or an AMI, IMC or AMS-affiliated program.
How to Apply
Interested candidates must register and attend an EdD information session. Following the online meeting, you may begin submitting your required materials. Once a portfolio is complete, admission decisions are made on a rolling basis, with final decisions typically rendered within 3–5 weeks.
Admissions and Deadline Information
Deadline: Applications are reviewed for admission year-round until the cohort is full or March 1, whichever comes first.
Deposit: Upon acceptance, a non-refundable deposit equal to one tuition credit is required to reserve your spot in the program.

Required: Online Application and $56 Application Fee
- Complete the Universities of Wisconsin online application to access your applicant portal where you will submit your application materials.
- Add your Letter of Interest (essay/personal statement) in the UW applicant portal under the "essay" section.
- The Letter of Interest (500-word max) should address why you want to be part of the Montessori Ed.D. program and why you want to study at UWRF.
Required: Resume
- Upload your resume to your application portal.
Required: Writing Sample, Choose A or B
- Upload a writing sample (choose A or B) in applicant portal.
- A: A scholarly/research writing sample.
- B: A 1,500-word max paper that shares your research interests, demonstrates your writing skills and addresses interest areas related to Montessori education.
Required: Three Letters of Recommendation
- Include the names and contact information of your three references in your applicant portal.
- Attend an online Ed.D. information session to learn more about what should be addressed in reference letters.
Required: Official Transcripts
- Official transcripts from your undergraduate and graduate degree granting institution are required.
- Please send electronic transcripts. Most universities use either Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse services. Visit your college’s website to see which one they use.
- When ordering a transcript, select the University of Wisconsin-River Falls as the recipient.
Required: Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Scores (within last five years)
- GRE scores from within the past five years must be sent directly to UWRF using the code 1918.
Required: Deposit
- Candidates who accept admission into a cohort will be required to submit a non-refundable deposit in the amount equivalent to one graduate-level tuition credit to reserve placement in the program.
