Department Events
The History and Philosophy Department at UWRF hosts a dynamic range of events that bring big ideas to life. Through distinguished lectures, speaker series and community conversations, we invite students, faculty and the public to engage with timely topics—spanning ethics, democracy, historical insight and global thought leadership.

Dr. Imtiaz Moosa Philosophy and Ethics Speaker Series
This fund was established in 2021 with a generous gift from the Moosa family as well as many individual campus and community members. The goal of the series is to feature leading experts and thought leaders on a variety of pressing philosophical, social justice and contemporary ethical issues.
The series was established in tribute to UW-River Falls philosophy professor Imtiaz Moosa, Ph.D., who taught at the university from 1989 until his unexpected passing in December 2020. The series fund will provide financial resources for an annual contemporary philosophy and ethics speaker series.

Edward N. Peterson Lecture Series
The lecture series honors the memory of Professor Ed Peterson, who taught at UWRF from 1954 to 2005. It addresses issues that were the focus of Dr. Peterson's academic life and are still relevant today: war and peace, abuses and limits of power, the struggle for democracy in the twentieth century.
Sponsored by UWRF:
- Edward N. Peterson Lecture Series Endowment
- History and Philosophy Foundation
- History and Philosophy Department
- College of Arts and Sciences
The lecture series is held annually at UWRF. The funds that made the endowment possible were generated by the generous donations of students, alumni, faculty and friends, collected over many years. Your continued support enables this valuable series to continue.
Wyman Visiting Professorship in Arts and Sciences
Established with a generous gift from Dr. Bry Wyman in 2015, the goal of the Walker D. and Helen Bryant Wyman Visiting Professorship Program features prominent scholars speaking on timely topics.
2025: Safiya Noble, Siva Vaidhyanathan
