Coaching Minor 

UW-River Falls offers a minor in coaching for students interested in coaching a variety of sports at all levels. The program provides a foundation of science-based courses, coaching theory courses and hands-on experience via a coaching practicum, all combining to prepare you for a coaching position at any level. We offer a 23-credit minor in coaching for students interested in coaching a variety of sports at all levels, culminating in a 2-credit coaching practicum.

Required Minor Courses 20 cr.

  • P E 131 Weight Training (F/Sp) .5 cr.
  • SFED 200 First Aid, CPR, AED Certification .5 cr. 
  • PED 213 Care & Prevention of Athletic Injuries (F/Sp) 2 cr. 
    Prereq: HEAL 262 or 263 AND SFED 200
  • PED 351 Coaching Young Athletes 2 cr.
  • PED 363 Psychology of Coaching (F) 3 cr.
  • PED 373 Advanced Coaching Principles 3 cr.
  • PED 472 Coaching Practicum (F/Sp/Jterm/Summer) 2 cr.
  • HEAL 262 Applied Anatomy & Exercise Physiology (Sp) 3 cr.
    Prereq: BIOL 101
  • EXSS 465 Scientific Principles of Conditioning (F/Sp) 3 cr. or PED 243 Motor Learning and Development 3 cr.
    Prereq: HEAL 262 (or 263 AND EXSS 366) and PE 131

Coaching Theory Classes 4 cr.

Students are required to take at least two coaching theory classes.
