Student Support Services

The Student Support Services (SSS) program at UWRF offers a number of educational outreach and enrichment opportunities to maximize academic success at the college level. Program participants receive access to one-on-one academic coaching, leadership and community service opportunities, career/graduate school advising, opportunities to participate in social/cultural activities, financial literacy and assistance with accessing campus services.

The program is funded annually by the United States Department of Education and is free to qualified applicants.

Our Mission

The mission of SSS at UWRF is to provide a supportive community which facilitates transition to UWRF for under-represented students to accomplish educational and career goals. SSS motivates students to reach their potential for life long success in a diverse world.

To promote equitable educational access to students at UWRF who are first-generation, low income or disabled.

Program Benefits

SSS serves 200 student participants and offers a variety of supplemental services including the following:

  • Community of first generation scholars
  • Priority registration
  • SSS Peer Mentoring program
  • Knowledgeable and committed coaches
  • Early grade awareness reports
  • Academic and study skill support
  • Cultural activities and service projects
  • Financial literacy (budgets, credit cards, student loan guidance, FAFSA assistance)
  • Professional development (resume, interview skills, internships, networking and graduate school exploration)
  • Referrals and connections to other campus resources


UW-River Falls Student Support Services is a 100% federally funded TRIO program serving 200 students annually with $336,221 awarded per budget period. TRIO/SSS serves all program participants regardless of race, color, creed, religion, national or ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, or age.
