Outdoor Education Minor

The outdoor education minor provides a series of challenging outdoor experiences that develop personal skills in outdoor adventure activities, prepares you to teach these activities and develops the leadership skills to work with groups in outdoor adventure programs. You'll learn wilderness backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, winter camping, cross-country and downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, high ropes challenge courses, group initiative challenge activities and orienteering.



Program Requirements

Required Minor Courses 14.5 cr.

  • PED 201 Outdoor Ed Summer Concepts and Skills (F) 3 cr.
  • PED 202 Outdoor Ed Winter Concepts and Skills (Sp) 3 cr.
  • PED 275 Leadership in School-Based Adventure Education (Sp) 3 cr.
  • PED 301 Foundation of Outdoor Leadership (F) 3 cr.
  • PED 371 Outdoor Education Practicum (F/Sp/Jterm/Summer) 2 cr.
  • SFED 200 First Aid, CPR, AED Certification .5 cr.
