CAFES Giving Day

Make a difference Thursday, Nov. 6!

Every dollar donated during our annual Giving Day campaign goes directly to CAFES student organizations and judging teams for team travel, student activities, conferences, professional development and more. Your support supplements funding for these activities, the college provides some financial support and the students themselves are expected to pay a portion of their expenses for any travel.

CAFES Giving Day 2025 Detailed Schedule
  • 7-10 a.m.: We’re easing into the morning just as a retiree gets to do! Retired CAFES Dean Dale Gallenberg has challenged us to raise $500 in the first three hours!
  • 10-11 a.m.: Donate during the 10 a.m. hour and you’ll be entered into a drawing for a UWRF cow-themed swag package - fun stuff for all ages! Have you seen our popular UWRF cow pens yet?!
  • 11 a.m.-noon: Since we’re warmed up now, CAFES Dean Mike Orth has challenged us to raise $600 in the 11 a.m. hour. He’ll match it!
  • Noon-1 p.m.: This is a big one!  Dean Emeritus Dale Gallenberg is back with a challenge to match his donation of $2000 over the noon hour. (Historically this is a strong time for donations - we can do this!)
  • 1-3 p.m.: During this time we will jump into another giveaway and draw from all donors, sending the winner a t-shirt and a yummy Cheese Box from our Dairy Pilot Plant!
  • 3-4 p.m.: Another generous matching challenge for the late afternoon hour from 3-4 p.m. Bill Boehm, '70, an ag business and economics major, was generous with his challenge gift again this year and has a $500 match!
  • 4-6 p.m.: Any donations during the 4-6 p.m. hours will be put into a drawing for a basket of local Western Wisconsin products put together by Dean Orth!
  • 6-8 p.m.: Our final hours of the day call for one last giveaway! We'll draw from all the donors from these last two hours and send the winner a half dozen packages of meat sticks made in our very own meat plant. Perfect for taking on a fall hike or a hunting trip!

Why Support CAFES Giving Day?

ONE judging team trip can cost $5000. CAFES has 16 teams this year, so you can see how the cost adds up quickly! CAFES provides some financial support to our teams, but no direct support to our student organizations.

Your donation will help! A portion of the funds raised are directed to our judging teams and a portion is set aside to be awarded through the Student Impact Grant (SIG) process. Any CAFES team or club can apply for a SIG, a subcommittee of the CAFES Alumni Board reviews the applications and determines the awards.

Thank YOU!

Some words of thanks from members of our student groups that have benefited from your generous donations!

  • “The Student Impact Grant made the Trip to Louisiana for our team possible. These grants helped cover the expenses around travel. It let our team focus on preparing for the contest and then concentrate on competing - rather than how we would afford to go.” - Matthew Fischer, member of the Poultry Judging Team
  • "We are really thankful to apply all of the skills we learn in class at competitions like NACTA, all thanks to the support of CAFES Giving Day!" - Megan Culpitt, member of the Soil Judging Team
  • "Your support allowed us to attend our first livestock judging competition at the Sioux Empire Livestock Show - Thank you!" - Ben Steffes, member of the Livestock Judging Team
  • "Myself and another Collegiate Farm Bureau member were able to compete in the Young Farmers and Agriculturists Discussion Meet, furthering our skills and knowledge about agriculture, becuase of the resources right here at UWRF." - Michelle Stangler, member of UWRF Collegiate Farm Bureau
  • "Thanks to CAFES Giving Day we were able to attend the Alpha Tau Alpha National Conclave and National FFA Convention!" - Rose Gillis, member of the UWRF Agriculture Education Society and Alpha Tau Alpha
