ABMS is our department's flagship student organization. A student-run club, ABMS organizes field trips and hosts guest speakers to highlight industry opportunities and issues within the agribusiness sector. In conjunction with the biannual campus Career Fair, ABMS organizes an evening social allowing students to interact with agricultural employees in a casual setting. They also host fun social events throughout the academic year, including bowling outings, game nights and bonfires.
Unleash your entrepreneurial side with the NAMA student chapter at UWRF! Members create a product, develop a marketing plan for it and then present the plan to a panel of judges at the Student Marketing competition at the annual NAMA spring conference. Teams must demonstrate the financial potential of their product just as if they were speaking to potential investors. Our chapter competes against other campuses during the competition. Recent proposed products from our team include a beef tallow skin lotion and a sunscreen made from beeswax and propolis.
The UWRF chapter operates under the North Central NAMA Chapter, which offers opportunities for industry interaction and field events in our region.
Four-member teams each receive a case study to analyze for market and financial potential as a startup or expanding business. Each team prepares a mission statement, SWOT analyses and financial analyses to demonstrate viable business strategies and then travel to present their business plan to a panel of industry judges. In recent years, our teams have competed at the North American Colleges and Teachers of America (NACTA) Judging Conference in Nebraska and California, as well as the Wisconsin Agriculture Case Study Competition hosted by the Cranberry Research Station in Black River Falls.
This year-long program is a series of seminars and workshops with industry and academic facilitators. Participants learn how effective communication, diversity, teambuilding and ethical practices play a role in leadership. The program culminates in a capstone project to identify, understand and apply key elements of leadership.
