In Their Own Words

"The faculty and staff of the Ag Econ Department encourage you to gain experience inside and outside the classroom to prepare you for your future. They not only show you the best resources on campus to prepare a resume or practice an interview, but they are also some of the best resources with their years of knowledge. The professors encouraged me to seek a career that was fitting for me, and that is how I found my position at Compeer."  - Jessica Willer (Steger), '19

"The classes gave me an economic background which is essential to my career. But, I think the most beneficial experiences for me in college were all the out of classroom opportunities (Pre-Career Fair Social, having industry professionals speak at club meetings, going to conferences, etc.) which helped me to develop my professional skills and put the knowledge I learned in the classroom to use. My favorite thing about the Ag Econ Department is that the main goal is not just to give you an education, but to help you develop a career post-graduation." - Cassandra Borgardt, '17

Appraisal Associate

"The agricultural business major gave me the added value I needed to come back to the family business. I always knew I wanted to be a part of the agricultural field when I graduated college and my professors helped me find my passion for coming back to the family farm. They managed to make me think outside the box and I now have a growth mindset which will help me as I continue my career. I am forever grateful I got the opportunity to develop relationships with the professors in the department." - Ryan Kasel, '19

"I would encourage students to consider working with a professor on a research project separate from in-class research projects. It may help if you do not know exactly where you want to be professionally and help you decide if you want to continue your education. That is how I decided to go on and earn my M.S. in Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University.  Also, take time to get to know your professors aside from regular classes. They can provide so much insight and advice. The professional relationship you build with them will help you immensely." - Michaela Eden, '19
