Falcon Indoor Triathlon
Campus Recreation hosts the Falcon Indoor Triathlon each spring at Knowles Field House inside the Falcon Center. The event features a mix of competitive and recreational participants from campus and the surrounding community.
Event Details
All staff working the event are volunteers. Revenue generated goes to the Campus Recreation Student Staff Scholarship Fund. This money supports the professional development of student staff as they attend conferences or certification courses at the state, regional or national level from organizations like the WIRSA, NIRSA, AORE, American Red Cross, WIAA, NFHS, NCAA, ACSM, ACE and other governing bodies.
We appreciate your support of our students either through your registration or by your sponsorship of the event.
Event Setup
Heats of eight participants start every 20 minutes and move through the three events. Different from traditional races, the total race time from start to finish for each participant is 60 minutes no matter how far you travel. Participants don't need to be at the event prior to the start of their heat or remain at the event after their heat has ended, though participants are encouraged to arrive 30-45 minutes early to check in, test the rowers, figure out a comfortable bike setting, and see what resistance they plan to use for the race. After the event, participants are encouraged to stick around to visit with other racers who are done, cheer on racers still competing, and check out sponsor booths.
All results automatically update throughout the day. Final results, including overall totals, will be posted online at the conclusion of the day.
Awards will be available for pick-up as soon as the final racer in that division completes their heat. They will also be available to racers on Monday following the race for those who did not stay until the end of the event.
Equipment used will be the Rogue Concept2 Rower and IC7 Matrix Spin Bike (accommodations to upright Matrix stationary bikes are available for bikers who prefer larger seats). Running/walking will take place around the 200M indoor track.
Event Makeup:
- Row: 15 minutes
- Transition from Rower to Bike: 5 minutes
- Bike: 20 minutes
- Transition from Bike to Track: 5 minutes
- Run/Walk: 15 minutes
Scoring System
Each participant will have a volunteer assigned to them throughout the event. That volunteer will record your distance traveled on each leg of the race. Racers receive points for the total distance completed in each leg of the triathlon.
- The participant who rows the furthest will receive one point, the participant in second place will receive two points, etc.
- The participant who bikes the furthest will receive one point, the participant in second place will receive two points, etc.
- The participant who runs the furthest will receive one point, the participant in second place will receive two points, etc.
At the end of the race, the person with the lowest point total will be declared the winner. Results will be tabulated for overall (all participants) and per gender (male/female).
Awards are determined based on gender specific results as they may differ from the overall results.
(Confused? Look at the results from the past years below to better understand.)
T-Shirts
Each participant will receive an event t-shirt with the Falcon Indoor Triathlon logo on the front and sponsors on the back.
