Details: This course analyzes the role of biology, socialization, and social institutions in the formulation and maintenance of gender. Students will examine changes in gender relations in contemporary societies and their impact on family, work, and other institutions, with attention to intersections of gender with race, class, sexuality, and other axes of difference. The course critically examines competing theoretical frameworks and contemporary debates about gender identity and categorization. Cross-listed as SOCI/WGSS 326.
