Details: SPSY 742 serves as an introduction to public policy and advocacy for school-based mental health professionals. Emphasis is placed on developing the awareness, knowledge, and interpersonal characteristics necessary in collaborating with public policy makers, elected officials, and national- and community-based organizations. Working with those groups to help meet the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of children, adolescents, and families will be a primary focus. Furthermore, this course serves as a vehicle for candidates to explore the application of their emerging public policy and advocacy skills in a reflective and culturally-responsive manner.
