Details: This course prepares students to compete at national and regional soil judging competitions. Students will gain practical, hands-on experience describing soils in the field by learning, reinforcing, and applying knowledge of landforms, parent materials, horizons, texture, color, structure, consistence, soil wetness, slope, erosion, runoff potential, effective soil depth, hydraulic conductivity, water retention, and suitability/limitations of soil use. A one-week field trip for the judging competition is required. Prerequisites: SOIL 120 and consent of instructor (Sp)
