Teacher Education 309 Literacy 1: Instructional Methods for Early Readers and Writers 3.00
Details: This course provides teacher candidates with an introduction to literacy teaching and learning for diverse early elementary children. Emphasis will be placed on exploring the foundational skills of early childhood classrooms (concepts of print, phonological awareness, phonics, word recognition, and fluency). Students will gain an understanding of the developmental literacy continuum, assessing early language and literacy, and creating physical and social literacy-rich environments. Students learn to plan, modify, and implement literacy lessons and teaching strategies with PreK through second grade students. Field experience required: (12 hours). Concurrent enrollment in TED 301 is required. Prerequisite: TED 250 (F, Sp)
