Details: This course introduces students to the concepts, skills, and practices necessary to becoming more active citizens and competent members in a participatory democracy. This class examines foundational theory and research related to communication across political landscapes, with special attention paid to the persuasive processes connected to civic engagement, agency, and advocacy. Moreover, our class addresses communicative, social, and behavioral frameworks that drive change in participatory democracies, with particular focus on productive argumentation, collaborative discourse, and the role of media in these deliberative exercises.
